The Friesian horse is the only surviving wholly indigenous European breed famous for serving Julius Caesar's legions, William the Conqueror's invaders and the Crusader knights. This is the all-purpose horse of Northern Holland, used to pull the plough, take the family to church and follow the hunt - all in one week. True Friesians, the 'dancing black horse', are represented on the pages of the Friesian Stud Book founded in Holland in 1879 and in South Africa a hundred years later.

Friesians are gentle in nature and even the stallions can be ridden in safety.

The boerperd is a South African breed rooted in the Cape horse ranging back to Jan van Riebeek's days in 1652. The Boerperd Stud Book was founded in 1905.

The boerperd is renowned for its hardiness, endurance and its ability to work hard on minimum feed, yet still maintain condition. All these outstanding characteristics have resulted in a breed ideal for South African conditions. During the Anglo-Boer war its stamina, hardiness and mobility was a major factor in the success of the Boers against the might of the British troops for so long.

The boerperd is comfortable to ride and possesses enough speed to make it a pleasure horse for all who ride it. It has the style and action to compete well in the show ring and in any breeding, saddle or harness class. Known for its good temperament, loving and trustworthy, it is suitable for riders of all ages as a work, pleasure or sport horse.
